    Please add a reply outlining:

    * What is the community name and URL?
    * Who do you think is the target group, and how will it benefit them?
    * What is the URL of the blog or wiki you will use for your analysis? (ie your own blog or wiki where you will write your analysis of the community)

    Hi all
I had problems getting to this site as the link in Activity 4 on blackboard week 2 activities did not work for me (anyone else have the same problem?). However I got there in the end.
I have created my blog as instructed, http://rlaycock.blogspot.com/ I am a complete newbie to this blogging lark so if you have a look don’t expect much and hopefully it will improve as I gain skills.

For assignment 1 we need to join an online community and evaluate it. If I understand it correctly the community does not necessarily have to be related to education, so if appropriate I will evaluate the New Zealand Flights Forum URL http://nzff.org/forum/ as I do have a passing interest in flightsims and I am a New Zealander.

The target group would be people who share the hobby of flight simming and New Zealand aviation in general. The group will benefit by sharing ideas with other like-minded folk, keeping up to date with news in their hobby, problem solving and engaging in monthly contests

The URL for my blog is http://rlaycock.blogspot.com/

    Thanks
    Bob

Hey all , Arts Online is an online community with teaching resources for dance, drama, visual arts, art history, music and drama teachers in primary and secondary schools.

A source of teaching materials and resources.
A forum for the exchange of ideas.
A way to keep me abreast of developments in the teaching of Arts in New Zealand.
A way to keep me abreast of developments in the teaching of Arts internationally.
    For my own professional development.
A source of online projects for my students.
A source of material/resources for my students.
As a way to connect with Artists and Performers.

    Thanks John

Sorry about that, I hadn’t noticed that Blackboard inserted some code in the link – should be working now!

Looks like a very suitable community, Bob – I’m looking forward to your analysis!

This url seems to be more of a repository (ie the gallery of student work) rather than a community with interaction and collaboration amongst members. So it doesn’t really look suitable for assignment 1. But you talk about ‘a forum for the exchange of ideas’ so maybe the community is located in another part of the site?

    Hi All

I will be analysing this community http://board.flashkit.com/board/index.php. It is a community that has novice to expert for a development program Flash and operates on discussion groups and threads. People ask a question about Flash and other experts answer the question. It is a place to share tips and techniques around this program.

Thanks for the update, Lorraine. This looks like a very appropriate community to analyse for assignment 1…

I have joined and will be analysing Allnurses.com http://allnurses.com. It has taken me a while to join this community but I thought it would be better to look at one that I didn’t know already. The target group for this is definitely nurses. However this site is not just for nurses but also for students and is open for anyone to join. Making it a professional site that is not exclusively a professional site if that makes sense. I will use my PB works site for the analysis, here is the address: http://daygirlpracticedevelopment.pbworks.com/w/page/28376573/E-Learning. I am still rearraning the site as I want to try and keep the work I did last year so it is a little messy at the moment.

I have been a member of the Scivation performance nutrition community since Jan 2011 which i will be analysing as part of the requirements for the course http://www.scivation.com/forums/index.php
The target group is likely to be those interested and/or engaged in physical training and nutrition regimes to achieve desired outcomes, whilst they may also have some familiarity with the Scivation brand.
I will use my newly created blog http://www.verso.co.nz/members/mgrantnz1/ to do my analysis. Nau mai, haere mai (welcome) and please feel free to leave comments, questions, suggestions as i am here to learn.
    Nga mihi

Thanks, Marcus – I suggest you use an external blog for asst 1 as the account here isn’t really a full blog: posting an update is more like Twitter (ie a micro-blog) so is not so useful for a full length posting as you need to do for assignment 1.

The scivation site seems to have a limited range of tools but should be okay as a community to analyse. I’ve edited your post as there was an extra full stop at the end of the URL.

    Looking forward to your analysis…

    Hi Paul

    I will be analysing http://www.nursingcenter.com

This is a site for nurses that looks to be sponsored by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins. They are publishers of nursiing and medical books. The site has professional and clinical education, links to other sites and blogs, forums and facebook and twitter pages.

    My blog is http://mitpamwonlinecommunities.pbworks.com

    Thanks
    Pam

Nursingcenter.com looks good, Pam – interesting that the site itself doesn’t have a strong social dimension but they use external sites (eg Facebook & Twitter) to provide this.

Looking forward to what you write in your analysis…
